Our friend and colleague, Doug Alexander, has retired after practicing law with the firm for over 40 years. Doug’s career with the firm involved handling complex business transactional matters for clients in a wide variety of industries. He represented clients with businesses in multiple states and became a trusted advisor to many closely held businesses and families. His common sense and practical approach to solving problems and his focus on making well-reasoned business decisions benefited his many clients over the years as well as the firm. Doug served as the Managing Partner of the firm for 26 years and lead the firm to significant expansion and growth. He served on local non-profit boards and was involved in many community activities. He also served as an advisory board member with Legus for many years (as well as its Chair). Legus is an international network of law firms that Doug helped the firm join in its infancy which has grown to worldwide prominence and recognition. During the later part of his career, Doug established a large specialty practice which involved several of the firms lawyers serving dental and veterinary professionals, assisting with the sale and purchase of those professional practices in states throughout the US.
Since retiring, Doug has been spending time with family and friends, traveling, his passion for photography, working around his home, and even coming into the office to help on some special projects involving technology utilized by the firm. While he is happily retired and no longer licensed to practice law, he serves as a mentor and advisor to the firm as needed.
Doug’s partners have continued his practice and serve his clients addressing complex legal matters and providing trusted advice and counsel. If you need legal assistance in any of the areas previously served by Doug, please contact Caleb Williams, the current head of the corporate and tax practice group at the firm, at 503.399.1070 or cwilliams@sglaw.com.
